About Club Camping

Last updated

I’m Dave Fuller. I founded VW Owners Club, a community of around a million VW owners. I’ve spent years around people who camp: in vans, in tents, with dogs and with kids.

One question comes up again and again. “Does this site actually have what I need?” Hook-up, a waste point, dogs allowed, room for a tent. The answer is often out of date, buried, or just made up.

Club Camping exists to answer that question properly.

How it works

We start with OpenStreetMap, the free map that volunteers build. It lists thousands of UK campsites and the places around them.

Then we read each campsite’s own website. We only record a fact when the page says it clearly, and we keep a short quote as evidence. If the website and OpenStreetMap disagree, we don’t publish either answer until it’s checked.

We check our work. A stronger AI model re-reads a random sample of facts against the source pages. Where the checks show a type of fact is unreliable, we stop showing it until we can fix it.

Every fact on a campsite page shows where it came from and when we checked it. If we don’t know something, we say “Not confirmed yet” rather than guess.

What we don’t do

We don’t publish reviews or star ratings. We don’t take payment to rank a campsite higher. Some links may earn us a commission, and you can read exactly how.
