Kids' sleeping bags
A child's sleeping bag should fit their length and have a rating for the nights you camp. Below: what to check, then 6 bags compared on what their own listings say.
What to look for
- Temperature rating
- Look for a comfort or limit figure. Three bags here list one: KingCamp (comfort 6 °C, limit 2 °C), Trespass (comfort 1 °C) and Trail (comfort −5 to 15 °C). The others say only "2-season" or "3-season", which is a description, not a rating.
- Length and fit
- Match the bag to your child. Listings give ages or heights: Trail 4 to 12 years (up to 5 ft 5), Croosseoutdoors 6 to 12, KingCamp 10 to 14 (100 to 145 cm). The rest are 165 to 170 cm long.
- Hood
- The Trail, Vango and Trespass listings say their hoods are elasticated; the Trail listing gives the reason: there is no cord for a child to get tangled in. Croosseoutdoors and KingCamp use drawstrings.
- Carrying
- Rucksack-style carry bags (Trail, Croosseoutdoors) let children carry their own. Where listed, the bags weigh about 1 to 1.1 kg.
